Mulroy Bay

This is a very sheltered bay surrounded as it is on almost four sides it can be dived regardless of the weather. You can always get a dive there. Depth from 3–50m. Launch from the picnic area at Woodquarter or (the more difficult boat entry) at Cranford.

Massmount

Lovely shore dive (depth 7–20m) with striking plant life. Night diving here is something special, try it out.
N.B.: The road here is narrow, please be very cautious with your vehicles, also check that you don’t block any entrances to the houses. This is a shore dive but if you want to use boats you can launch from across the bay. This is a busy bay with plenty of people using it. Divers have never caused the locals any problems (makes a change, doesn’t it!). Watch out for marker buoys and shellfish farming areas. Keep your speed down.

The Black Rocks

Big majestic rock in 25–0m. Head about 30m to the seaward side, and then drop down. Clear water, fish, fine rockscapes, clear white sand and congers. When the weather permits, this is a fine dive.

Melmore Point

With depths of 20–30m this is a nice area and a favourite spot for local divers. Go down along rock face and keep to the inside of the point. There are large shoals of fish in a very large rocky area. You never know what you’ll find here. If you start your dive at the point and head along the reef, you will find a lovely unspoilt rugged area.
N.B.: As this dive is along the outside of the point, pay particular care to the weather conditions and the use of SMBs for each pair of divers is recommended.

Campbells Bed

Is a nice little reef stretching quite a long distance – Depth from 15–27m. Just opposite Carlan Bay there’s not too much animal life, but it’s varied and there is a nice conger there. Animal life seems to be on the increase, and there are always the seals on the surface. Beautiful place for a night dive – landscape is crying out to be photographed.

Downings

There is a fine slipway here. Don’t block it. Head out of the harbour, turn right and keep going. You will soon see the Wearyman Rock by the water crashing over it. Depth 15–20m. Interesting rock face.

The Narrows

An underwater garden in 21–24m. You have to get this one dead right. Usually crystal clear, but the current is quite strong. If you get swept off the rock race, watch yourself. Bruised arms and legs are not unusual. This is a drift dive, not for the faint hearted, but God! it’s exciting! Launch from the boatyard at Neevagh.

Dunaff Head

Dunaff Head is at the Eastern side of Lough Swilly. There is a series of gullies running north–south between Portbane Island and the Head, narrowing in the centre to an inverted k eyhole swim through. The general depth is 15–25m. Launch from the slipway in Rocks town Harbour , just around the head.
